WHAT IS BRAVERY?
Here are some common responses to this question:
Saying no when you need to.
Have courage to quit when you’re on the wrong track.
Getting vulnerable in conversation with others.
The ability to do things that frighten us.
Accepting mediocrity while trying to get better.
WHY DO WE NEED TO BE BRAVE?
To build physical strength in ourselves. Bravery allows us to overcome the fear of new things, such as: swimming, driving a car, playing a sport, flying in an airplane.
To build mental strength in ourselves. Bravery allows us to overcome mental blocks that hold us back, such as: fear of others judgment or fear of failure.
To build integrity in ourselves and others. Doing what we know to be right despite the risks gives us purpose and a stronger sense of self. Examples include: standing up to bullies, racism and speaking up for what you believe in.
Bravery that we display and witness in others is contagious and inspiring! Bravery is an essential component to living satisfying and successful lives!
WHO IS BRAVE ANYWAY?
People often mistakenly think that courageous people are born that way. That they are separate from the rest of the population and are destined for a different type of life. But that’s wrong. Just like brushing your teeth, bravery can and should be learned as a habit.
Anyone you have ever met who:
- has been in service of others
- has created something from nothing
- has inspired you
has been brave.
